ON3P Skis VS Scott USA

For those of you who don’t know ON3P Skis is a small company based out of Portland, OR, founded in 2006.  Recently the founder of the company Scott Andrus posted the following on the Teton Gravity Research forums.

This post is meant to inform anyone who has to date purchased a “Great Scott” ski from ON3P, or those who are considering a future purchase. In late October, ON3P received a cease and desist order from SCOTT USA Ltd., and its affiliates SCOTT Sports SA and SCOTT USA Inc., demanding ON3P immediately cease commercialization and sales of all “Great Scott” branded skis for reasons of trademark infringement.

We are current exploring the legality of the use of “Scott” in the name of our ski “Great Scott” and should reach a decision in the near future.

Once we have reached a decision, I will post an update on the matter.

Chia Seeds

Raw unprocessed Chia Seeds

Raw unprocessed Chia Seeds

My new favorite thing to have for breakfast is a Chia Seed shake.  Mix two table spoons of Chia Seed with a glass of water, the juice from half a lime, a bit of sugar to taste, and you have yourself a filling healthy breakfast.  Salvia hispanica better known as Chia Seed (the same ones you get with a Chia Pet) is a staple of the Tarahumara people, who are indigenous to Northern Mexico.  The Tarahumara are famous for their feats of endurance, running extremely long distances up to 100 miles at a time.  Read the rest of this entry »

Sometimes Ya Just Gotta Give’r

New episode of Salomon Freeski TV was posted a few days ago, I do not think I have ever seen a better compilation of big air bails.  My favorite is the guy who loses both skis before getting to the second cliff.

Subaru-based Trax STI

Ken Block has a new toy, check him testing it out on Guardsman Pass in Utah.  Last time I went up Guardsman I had to skin up, I think this way might be a little bit more fun.

Wedding

My brother and Morgan got married at Pastures of Plenty in Boulder, Colorado.  I was the best man at the wedding, so I did not get the chance to take as many pictures as I would have liked, but I think I was still able to get a few good ones.

Camping Adventure

Nice view from our camp site.

Nice view from our camp site.

After ski season was over I had to get a real job for the summer to make a little bit of money, four months of landscaping on Cape Cod later I decided it was time to hit the road once again.  After two weeks at my parents house in West Hartford, it was time for me to head out to Colorado to spend some quality time with my brother and his wife to be. We decided to go for a camping trip up to the Holy Cross Wilderness. Our original plans were to head up the Missouri Lakes trail, but when we arrived the parking lot looked like something like a mall parking lot on Black Friday. We looked at our options and decided to head up a dirt road to another trail head, when we got to the end of the road we found ourselves to be the only car up there. We hiked up the trail for about an hour until the trail started to fade out in a high mountain meadow surrounding a beautiful lake. We were the only people around so we took our time searching for the perfect camping spot. We ended up finding a fire pit close to the lake, so we decided to gather fire wood and set up camp.  Read the rest of this entry »

Rocky Point and Patsy Marley Lap

Patsy Marley at 10,525 ft is just outside of the boundaries of Alta, here is a view of it from my room at the Alta Lodge.

Patsy Marley

Patsy Marley

Ian, Alan, and I headed up late in the day after a small storm had come through and left us with a nice fresh coat of snow.  It had gotten a bit windy during the day but the snow over in Rocky Point was still great.  We decided to head up Patsy Marley and see what we could find.  When we got to the top we started to traverse over to find a spot that was a little less tracked out.  Patsy Marley is only about a 20 minute hike from the top of Rocky Point, so it can see a fair amount of traffic on a good day.  Although I did not find an area that was completely untracked I was still able to get some good snow and make some great turns.  Here is a short video starting with Rocky Point and finishing on Patsy Marley.
